Systems theory tells us that when one person in the family is struggling, the entire family is affected. The goal is to bring underlying emotions that fuel anger, chaos, and dysfunction; and reorganize them into healthy, healing communication patterns. The world has become far more complex with unique challenges for teens and their parents. I work with the adolescent population as they navigate the expectations and demands of this often confusing and frightening stage in their lives. Parents often require additional support and understanding when the family dynamics feel out of control and destructive.
My role is to help all family members recognize their own and one another strengths and wisdom. The focus is on relationships and communication, with the goal being to increase our awareness and understanding, as opposed to assigning blame and judgment.
I am able to work with your teens and family in whatever capacity you feel will work best. I often see adolescents individually; with the option always available to have family members or significant others (friends, partners, relatives) attend for one or more sessions. If your family dynamics are more complex, requiring all family members to take part regularly, we will start there.
